In the first sequel of his career, Denzel Washington returns as the ultimate vigilante Robert McCall. The Equalizer 2 also reunites us with director Antoine Fuqua and screenwriter Richard Wenk, who spend a lot of time showing us how McCall has changed over the years but still also remains the same justice-seeking man that he was. He still has one hell of a fight in him and he still uses his stopwatch like a boss.
This sequel begins with Robert McCall’s (Denzel Washington) train ride to Istanbul, where he successfully retrieves a kidnapped girl. He then goes on to live out a quiet life in Boston where he takes on the job of a Lyft driver and reads books in his off time. But he hasn’t left his vigilante past behind. Presumed dead by everyone who knew him in the past, he has few friends including one of his former colleagues Susan Plummer (Melissa Leo). As Robert McCall continues to serve unflinching justice for the exploited, you’ll find out how far he will go when that is for someone he loves.
Denzel Washington is great at delivering the same never-back-down attitude that we enjoyed in the first film. But just like the first film, the real star of the show is the expertly staged action sequences. If you’re a fan of the first film and you love some Denzel Washington style fast-paced action, then you’ve got to check this one out. Watch it and enjoy the action.
