The mother-in-law/son-in-law tropes defined Telugu cinema in the early ’90s. Almost all the main league stars during that time had a blockbuster attempting this type. After a good gap, Maruthi is back with the “Atha – Alludu” genre. Shailaja Reddy Alludu is a film where egoist character(s)-creates-mayhem in the house. Lead actors Naga Chaitanya, Anu Emmanuel and Ramya Krishna did the crowd-pulling act and thanks to the supporting actor-lineup featuring Vennela Kishore, Prudhvi and Murali Sharma.
Both the male and female protagonists Chaitanya and Anu are named after the actor’s screen names. Chaitanya (Chaitanya Akkineni) is the son of a rich industrialist, Rao (Murali Sharma), who is highly egoistic in nature. Chaitanya falls in love with Anu (Anu Emmanuel) at first sight and eventually finds her to be as egoistic as his father. Anu is later revealed to be the daughter of Shailaja Reddy (Ramya Krishna), who is more egoistic than Rao and Anu. How Chaitanya convinces these three egoistic personalities and comes out a winner forms the rest of Shailaja Reddy Alludu.
Naga Chaitanya has grown more matured and we get to see the new side of his talent in Shailaja Reddy Alludu. after her debut movie Majnu, Anu Emanuel has again gotten a substantially full-length role and was natural in her act. Ramya Krishna is whimsical in the role of a grumpy mother-in-law. Venella Kishore and Pruthvi are so funny, your cheeks will ache at a point. On the whole, the movie is a clean family entertainer which will please every division of the audience. Watch it!
