Smart home technology has changed a lot over the past few years with the advent of smart home assistants like Amazon’s Alexa or Google’s home assistant.

Apple, Samsung and other electronic giants have also forayed into the smart home technology market with their voice assistants.

While they’ve all been obediently listening and following everyday commands and have been switching on the lights and fans and controlling the temperature of your home as you just entered, Alexa has just included an upgrade – a musical upgrade that is!

With a simple command, Alexa can now play your favorite music, podcast or even a radio show which can be included in your routine. Earlier, it gave updates on weather, traffic, and also updated on news.

To use this latest future, users need to select a playlist, an artist or an album or a station either from their music library or from one of the streaming services supported by the device. As of now, some of the supported streaming works include Amazon Music, Pandora, Spotify, Saavn, iHeartRadio, TuneIn and Deezer.

The company says that the users will also be able to control the volume with a simple command on their output device.

The best part of the feature is that it can be included in the daily routines by creating a ‘good morning’ or ‘welcome home’ commands that will turn on the lights, set preferred temperature and then play your favorite music. The makers say that it will help in giving the energy boost that is much needed after a busy schedule or just to kick start your day.

Relaxing routines can also be included like a soothing music for your meditation or a relaxing music that will close the doors and then play the sound for you. A wonderful playlist for parties can also be included that will put on the disco lights and change color themes while playing perfect party music.

Amazon is keen as integrating music on its Alexa as music is becoming one of the most increasing and important businesses for Amazon. It recently reported that it already has millions of customers paying for music and it is now the third biggest music service provider after Spotify and Apple Music.
